Former legendary Bengal goalkeeper Kanai Sarkar is no more

Kanai Sarkar passed away at 9:42 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. Kanai Sarkar, one of the best goalkeepers of Bengal and India in the 60’s.The entire football fraternity in Bengal mourned the untimely demise of former goalkeeper Kanai Sarkar.
Former India goalkeeper Hemanta Dora said in a memoir of Kanai Sarkar, “Once again, the fall of the star of Bengal football and the departure of Kanai Sarkar caused irreparable damage to Bengal football.”
Legendary Indian footballer Subrata Bhattacharya said, “Kanai Sarkar was very good as a man, his height as a goalkeeper was very nice. There were not many newspapers or publications in those days so people may not know that much but he was a very high quality football player as a goalkeeper.”
Former Indian footballer Prasanta Banerjee said in a memoir of the Kanai Sarkar, “Kanai Sarkar was a much senior footballer than us, he was a very good goalkeeper of the 60’s, and the departure of Kanai Sarkar caused irreparable damage to Bengal football.”
