Indian Football Legend Subhash Bhowmick Passes Away At 72

Asiad Medalist in 1970 Asian Games and winner of innumerable trophies at club football level, Subhash Bhowmick (popularly known as Bhombol Da in Bengal) passed away at the age of 72, on 22nd January, 2022. He was suffering from renal ailments and a chest infection at the same time that led to dialysis treatment and ultimately his demise.
The East Bengal legend with 83 goals for the club, also had a successful career as a coach winning back to back Nation Leagues for the same club and being crowned champions of ASEAN Club Championship title in 2003.
The stalwart who was at his peak during the 70s, was known for leading a lavish King Size life. He is most fondly remembered for demolishing Mohun Bagan single handedly, in a historic 5-0 victory in 1975, in the IFA Shield Final. Two years later, in 1977, he was a part of the Treble winning squad of the Green and Maroon brigade, netting a total of 82 goals during his association with the club. He scored 83 goals for East Bengal. He won 26 trophies in his club career.
Tributes were paid from all around the country, including the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Indian Football Team Captain Sunil Chhetri and many more.
We say goodbye to the legend although his contribution towards Indian football will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace and find a new Maidan for him to keep football.
